A unique entertainment venue is under construction at 201 N. Main Street in downtown Las Cruces. Located next door to the Rio Grande Theatre, Rad Retrocade is slated to be “a whimsical concept with a cool retro feel,” according to El Paso entrepreneurs and NMSU alumni Mariana and Alex Macias.

The 8,700-square-foot first phase of the project will occupy the ground floor of the 11,100 square-foot, two-story building, which in 1927 was home to one of the first JC Penney stores in New Mexico. The venue will include a restaurant and bar, over 4,000 square feet of gaming area and a dance floor. The endeavor will employ 25 to 30 people and offer seating for 82 guests at indoor tables; 78 at the bar; and 40 to 50 outdoors.

The adult-oriented experience is designed to take guests back to a time when pinball machines and arcade games were the rage. Plans call for 78 machines, ranging from vintage pinball from decades past to modern state-of-the-art arcade and basketball games.

“This is going to be an awesome place for Las Cruces,” said Alex Macias.

In addition to the gaming experience, entertainment will include live music and DJs for listening and dancing, plus trivia contests and karaoke. The venue will include a full kitchen and offer a wide range of gastronomic choices, including gourmet burgers made from scratch. The full bar will offer cocktails, beer and wine. Plans also include happy hours and college nights.

While the concept is designed for adult enjoyment, kids will be able to enjoy the games during the daytime hours.

The 2,400 square-foot second phase will occupy the upper floor and “will offer an entirely different concept,” said Macias.  “The whole idea is to provide a retro experience for our guests.”  Phase 1 is scheduled to open in early January 2019. The second phase is scheduled to be completed later in the year. Enjoy!

    See you at closing.
